Public Utilities Commission of Ohio awards $800,000 in hazmat training grants

The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) has awarded $800,000 in hazardous materials training grants to 43 applicants, including local governments, fire departments, and educational institutions across the state. The annual program is designed to ensure emergency responders are prepared to react quickly and safely to incidents involving hazardous materials, particularly those related to transportation.

Cleveland State University received the largest portion of the funding, with a $400,000 award representing half of the total distributed this year. Other significant recipients include Cincinnati State Technical and Community College and the University of Findlay, which each received $40,000.

PUCO Chair Jenifer French stated that the investment aims to help thousands of emergency responders across Ohio respond effectively when incidents occur.
