Public works transparency and political shifts in Mexico and Peru

In Jalisco, Mexico, Joanna Edith Arana Hernández, president of the Colegio de Ingenieros Civiles del Estado de Jalisco (CICEJ), advocated for increased transparency in public works. During a forum regarding the incorporation of the international CoST standard into state legislation, she emphasized that citizens have a constitutional right to know the technical justification, costs, and planning of infrastructure projects to ensure efficient and durable investment.

In Peru, President Keiko Fujimori expressed support for Defense Minister Rafael Belaunde following an interpellation motion filed by the Juntos por el Perú party. Fujimori described the motion as premature given the minister's short tenure. Additionally, the President announced plans to reduce state current expenditures, such as vaccine storage costs, to prioritize public works and modernization through legislative powers requested from Congress.
