Publix expands Southeast presence and retail strategy
Publix is expanding its retail footprint and promotional strategies across the Southeast. The company recently opened a new 48,387-square-foot store in Apopka, Florida, featuring a full-service deli, bakery, and pharmacy. A second new location is scheduled to open in Fayetteville, North Carolina, on October 21, which is expected to employ approximately 140 associates.
In terms of consumer value, a price comparison of various grocery items shows mixed results between Publix and its competitors, Walmart and Aldi. While Publix utilizes extensive ‘Buy One, Get One Free’ (BOGO) promotions—accounting for nearly 40% of its deals—the savings vary by product. In some instances, Publix BOGO deals provided lower single-unit prices than Aldi or Walmart, while in other cases, Aldi and Walmart offered more competitive pricing on comparable items.
