Publix posts modest Q2 sales rise as pharmacy price cuts curb growth
Publix Super Markets reported second‑quarter 2026 sales of $15.7 billion, a 1 % increase year over year, while comparable‑store sales fell 0.5 %. Net earnings rose to $1.7 billion, up more than 20 % from the same period last year.
The slowdown follows reduced drug prices mandated by the Inflation Reduction Act, which lowered reimbursement for ten major medications, and broader economic pressures on consumer spending. Publix also joined the Medicare GLP‑1 Bridge program, offering eligible seniors select GLP‑1 prescriptions for a flat $50 monthly rate.
During the quarter the chain opened 16 new stores, remodeled 56, and closed eight, operating roughly 1,440 supermarkets across the southeastern United States.
