Puccini Festival’s record crowds highlight Italy’s summer cultural season
The 72nd Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago drew more than 2,500 spectators for a spontaneous encore of Eleonora Buratto’s aria “Vissi d’arte” from Tosca, while the opening night of Turandot attracted over 3,000 fans and a ten‑minute standing ovation. The festival’s sold‑out performances showcase the enduring link between Puccini’s works and the lakeside setting.
A national touring tribute to Raffaella Carrà, titled “Raffaella! Sognando la Carrà”, will launch on 16 October in Montecatini Terme and travel to major Italian cities through the 2026‑27 season, featuring Beatrice Baldaccini’s homage to the iconic singer.
Other highlights include the “Concerto per l’Italia” in Siena’s Piazza del Campo, which attracted over 5,000 attendees and a ten‑minute standing ovation, a massive Nomadi concert in Grottaminarda as part of the local Festa della Cappelluzza, and a street‑food festival during the 90th Sagra delle Pesche in Castel Gandolfo. Additional events such as the “Sogno di una notte di mezza estate” Shakespeare production in Siena, the “Madama Butterfly” opera at Villa Monastero, and the “Festa del Giacchio” in San Feliciano further illustrate the vibrant cultural programme across Italy this summer.
