Puccini's musical legacy celebrated through opera gala and jazz

The legacy of composer Giacomo Puccini is being celebrated through diverse musical interpretations in Italy. At the 72nd Festival Puccini in Torre del Lago, the season concludes on August 30 with a Grand Gala featuring Plácido Domingo and soprano María José Siri. Conducted by Marcello Rota, the program explores various musical worlds, including Spanish zarzuela, Neapolitan songs, and operetta.

In a different stylistic approach, the production ‘Puccini Goes Jazz’ is set to debut on August 31 at the Teatro Comunale di Cagli as part of the Mugellini Vision festival. This original production features Fabrizio Bosso, Rosario Giuliani, the Quintetto Gigli, and harpist Lucia Galli. The performance reimagines Puccini’s famous repertoire through contemporary jazz arrangements, demonstrating the enduring expressive power of his compositions a century after the premiere of Turandot.
