PUCV launches intelligent management model for heritage zones

The Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (PUCV) has launched the “Intelligent Heritage District Management (IHDM)” project, an interdisciplinary initiative designed to create a new paradigm for managing urban heritage zones. Led by academic Vicente Aprigliano from the School of Construction and Transport Engineering, the project aims to move away from fragmented management approaches by integrating diverse fields such as engineering, mobility, geography, and architecture.

The initiative will utilize advanced technologies, including geospatial artificial intelligence, Building Information Modeling (BIM), and digital twins, to create a comprehensive management framework. Valparaíso will serve as the experimental site for this model. The goal is to provide managers with a “territorial health dashboard” to identify interconnected urban issues and evaluate potential interventions.

The project focuses on three core dimensions: Territorial Intelligence, Infrastructure Intelligence, and People-Centered Intelligence, treating heritage zones as living urban systems where residents work, live, and move through public spaces.
