PUCV launches new chess workshop for students and community
The Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (PUCV) has launched a new chess workshop designed to foster community engagement and provide a space for learning and social interaction. Led by professor Cristián Fuentes, the sessions take place every Monday at 6:00 PM in the Gimpert Building library.
The initiative is a collaborative effort between the Directorate of Sports and Physical Activity and the University Library System. It aims to bring together students, faculty, staff, and the general public. Sandra Navarrete, director of the Library System, noted that the workshop responds to repeated requests from students to create a central meeting point for those in Valparaíso.
Program coordinator Claudio Narváez highlighted the high level of interest from the initial sessions, noting that chess helps develop strategic thinking, concentration, and patience—skills deemed essential for both academic and professional life.
