Puducherry CM N Rangasamy offers resignation over statehood demand

Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy has offered to resign to reinforce the territory's long-standing demand for statehood. Speaking in the Assembly, Rangasamy stated that the current status as a Union Territory leaves the government and the territorial Assembly without sufficient powers, creating significant administrative difficulties.

He noted that he has previously raised the issue directly with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Opposition leaders have called for united protests against the central government's delay in granting statehood, with some legislators also advocating for special category status to accelerate regional development.
