Puebla and Iquique engage in international cooperation and disaster management dialogues
The state of Puebla, Mexico, hosted the 2026 Ibero-American Dialogue on South-South and Triangular Decentralized Cooperation. The event brought together representatives from 20 countries to discuss territorial development and strengthen international ties through the exchange of knowledge and capacities between subnational governments, such as cities and provinces.
The dialogue was coordinated by the Government of Puebla in collaboration with the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXCID) and the Ibero-American Program for the Strengthening of South-South Cooperation (PIFCSS). The sessions focused on identifying opportunities for multi-level articulation and building alliances to address specific regional challenges.
In a separate international engagement, officials from Iquique, Chile, attended the 28th Inter-American Conference of Mayors and Local Authorities in Miami-Dade, Florida. The delegation sought to revitalize a 30-year sister-city agreement with Miami-Dade and establish new cooperation frameworks regarding emergency and disaster management, specifically focusing on seismic activity and recent weather phenomena.
