Puebla authorities arrest two suspects in merchant kidnapping case
The Puebla State Attorney General's Office has arrested Arturo N., 31, and Alma Esperanza N., 30, for their alleged involvement in the kidnapping of a clothing merchant. The incident began on October 8, 2026, when six men approached the victim at his clothing stall near CAPU to demand extortion payments. One of the men later returned and led the victim away.
Following the abduction, the victim's wife received ransom demands starting at 800,000 pesos. During negotiations, the demanded amount was reduced to 30,000 pesos. On October 16, after the victim's wife reported new demands for the money, investigators conducted surveillance and intercepted a man believed to be armed.
During the operation in the La Resurrección auxiliary board, authorities seized a firearm, 29 cartridges of various calibers, suspected marijuana, four mobile phones, several SIM cards, and a property. The two suspects remain in custody under the jurisdiction of the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Kidnapping and Extortion investigations.
