Puebla Congress urges improved refugee assistance and coordination

The Migration and International Affairs Commission of the Puebla Congress has approved a project to urge the Mexican Commission for Refugee Assistance (COMAR) and the Puebla Migrant Assistance Institute (IPAM) to strengthen coordination and support for individuals seeking international protection.

Deputy Esther Martínez Romano noted that Puebla’s strategic location makes it a transit, stay, and destination point for many people in mobile contexts. The proposal aims to improve institutional mechanisms for guidance, accompaniment, and referral for those initiating refugee status recognition procedures. Additionally, the commission is analyzing the feasibility of establishing a COMAR office within the state of Puebla to ensure more accessible and direct service.
