Puebla court sentences aggressor of dog Huesitos to 11 years imprisonment

Luis Rey N., also known as Luis Rey Reyes or “Colamochas,” was sentenced by a Puebla judge to 11 years and four months in prison for animal cruelty after he attacked the dog Huesitos with a large stone on 12 February 2025 in Santiago Miahuatlán, Puebla. The court also imposed a fine of 710 UMA (about 82,000 pesos), suspended his civil and political rights, and ordered psychological treatment during his incarceration, ruling that the sentence cannot be modified.

Veterinary experts testified that Huesitos, who was already suffering from cancer, sustained severe injuries and died weeks later despite medical care. Patricia Aguilar, president of the animal‑rights group TAC, said the verdict set an important precedent for protecting sentient beings in Mexico. The case was highlighted by the state prosecutor’s office as a demonstration of the commitment to investigate and punish cruelty against animals.
