Puebla deploys long-range drones to combat cargo theft
The Government of Puebla has incorporated two long-range drones into its state security strategy to combat cargo theft and monitor highways, specifically targeting the Mexico-Puebla and Puebla-Orizaba routes.
Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier and Public Security Secretary Francisco Sánchez González presented the high-tech equipment, which features a flight autonomy of three and a half hours and an operational radius of up to 50 kilometers. The drones can reach a maximum altitude of 4,500 feet and are equipped with day and night vision, including thermal and infrared zoom capabilities to identify suspects in difficult terrain.
The technology will integrate with the existing C5i control center and complement the Intelligent Monitoring Points (PMI) already installed on the 150D highway. Beyond preventing cargo theft, the drones will be used to monitor PEMEX pipelines to prevent fuel theft and assist in search and rescue operations.
