Puebla deputy proposes intercultural bilingual teacher training reform
Deputy Rosalío Zanatta Vidaurri has presented a legislative initiative in the Puebla State Congress to reform Article 48 of the State Education Law. The proposal aims to strengthen public teacher training institutions through an intercultural and bilingual approach.
The initiative seeks to ensure that teachers are assigned to educational centers within the linguistic regions to which they belong. It also proposes programs for the training, updating, and certification of educators in the indigenous languages of their respective areas. The goal is to enable teachers to functionally speak, understand, and use local languages to facilitate learning for students in their mother tongues.
If approved, the reform would incorporate cultural and linguistic subjects into the curriculum and implement evaluation systems to measure both academic comprehension and intercultural knowledge.
