Puebla deputy proposes stronger protections for mental health and addiction service users

In Puebla, Deputy Ana Lilia Tepole Armenta has introduced a legislative initiative to amend Article 36 of the State Mental Health and Addiction Law. The proposal aims to strengthen the protection of rights for individuals using mental health and addiction services.

The initiative mandates that all public, social, and private establishments providing these services—including residential treatment centers and day houses—must guarantee the protection of users' lives, integrity, liberty, and dignity. Furthermore, it requires facility administrators to immediately notify authorities if a crime is suspected, ensuring that rehabilitation centers collaborate with legal processes to safeguard human rights and facilitate access to justice.
