Puebla deputy uses AI and aliens for legislative report

Roberto Zatarain Leal, a Morena deputy in the Puebla State Congress, has sparked controversy by delivering his second legislative report via an artificial intelligence-generated video. The production features a science fiction theme where the deputy is abducted by a spacecraft and presents his achievements to a fictional “Honorable Galactic Parliament” composed of extraterrestrial beings.

In the video, Zatarain highlights several legislative milestones, including a 100% attendance record at sessions, the approval of five initiatives, and the completion of seven community works. He also announced a forthcoming “Digital Wellbeing” tour aimed at promoting responsible technology use among children and adolescents.

The unconventional format has drawn mixed reactions on social media. While some view it as a creative way to engage younger audiences, many critics have questioned the use of public funds for such a production. Although deputies in Puebla have an authorized budget of approximately 206,000 pesos for their annual reports, Zatarain has not yet provided a specific breakdown of how much was spent on the AI video, despite claiming the technology helped reduce costs.
