Puebla distributes 802 electronic motorcyclist IDs

The Secretariat of Mobility and Transport in the Mexican state of Puebla handed out 802 electronic identification badges to motorcyclists over a three‑day period. The devices, described as holographic badges, contain a QR code and an RFID chip but have no geolocation or tracking capability, and they do not display personal data on the badge.

The first phase of the program aims to issue 45,000 free badges to riders with a valid license and registration. Officials say the technology helps authorities verify riders while protecting privacy and preventing counterfeit or altered badges. No penalties are currently imposed for failing to wear the badge, and the addition does not affect helmet integrity.

The initiative is presented as a measure to improve public safety, streamline mobility management, and reduce irregularities in motorcycle use in Puebla.
