Puebla faces economic challenge with 70% labor informality
The state of Puebla faces a significant economic challenge, with labor informality rates exceeding 70 percent. This high level of informal employment limits access to social security, reduces overall productivity, and poses a threat to the region's competitiveness.
In response, the platform Pulso Puebla has launched an initiative to transform data analysis into actionable public policy proposals. This effort involves collaboration between state authorities, academic institutions, business representatives, and labor unions.
As part of this process, Pulso Puebla held a working session with Víctor Gabriel Chedraui, head of the Secretariat of Economic Development and Labor. The group is evaluating mechanisms to encourage formal employment, including studying tax incentives and payroll tax reductions used in other Mexican states, to foster formalization without harming business competitiveness.
