Puebla faces record rainfall in October, researcher warns
Lluvia Sofía Gómez, a researcher from the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP) and the Centro Universitario para la Prevención de Desastres Regionales (Cupreder), has warned that October will be the rainiest month of the season in Puebla.
The excessive accumulation of water poses risks of flooding and landslides, particularly in urban areas with insufficient drainage and in regions near hills or slopes where soil saturation increases instability. Residents are advised to clean sewers and water wells, maintain buildings, and avoid seeking shelter under trees during storms to prevent injury from falling branches.
Additionally, the researcher noted that falling temperatures and increased rainfall often lead to a rise in domestic accidents involving indoor heating methods like braziers or stoves, which can cause intoxication. Authorities have urged the population to ensure proper ventilation in homes and to stay informed about weather forecasts.
