Puebla family demands feminicide investigation into Karla Valeria's death

Family and friends of Karla Valeria Jiménez have demonstrated at the Fiscalía General del Estado de Puebla (FGE) to demand that her death, discovered on July 26 in San Sebastián de Aparicio, be investigated as a feminicide rather than a suicide.

The victim's mother, Carolina Sánchez, has identified Yeudiel Toxqui, the young woman's former partner, as a primary suspect. Sánchez alleges a history of physical and psychological violence and has called for investigations into Toxqui's parents for alleged omission regarding this violence. Protesters are also calling for the application of the ‘Ley Monzón’, which mandates that parents linked to feminicide lose parental rights. This follows the placement of the victim's four-year-old son under the care of the state DIF on August 11.

In response to the allegations, Yeudiel Toxqui has publicly denied any responsibility for the death, stating, “I did not do it,” and claiming he was not with the victim on the night she died. He expressed a willingness to cooperate with authorities. The FGE, through Karla Michelle Salas Sánchez, informed the family that no arrest warrant has been issued yet as the institution continues to gather evidence to build the investigation file.
