Puebla government defends new cable car transport project

The Government of Puebla is defending the viability of its new cable car transport system, citing over 70 technical, environmental, and financial studies. Cabinet Coordinator José Luis García Parra stated the project aims to modernize mobility with a vision toward 2050, targeting a population of 774,000 people.

To mitigate environmental impact, project modifications reduced the number of trees requiring transplantation from 980 to 77. Additionally, the government plans to create a green corridor featuring 10,000 new trees. The estimated investment for the project is 6.752 billion pesos.

Authorities are also analyzing an integrated fare scheme to promote multimodality. This plan would allow users to combine public bicycles, the cable car, and the RUTA bus system using a single card to reduce transfer costs. The projected fare for the cable car is expected not to exceed 12 pesos, potentially saving users up to 25 percent on monthly transportation expenses.
