Puebla Governor Announces Puente de la Transformación Bridge to Boost Mixteca Region

The state of Puebla unveiled the "Puente de la Transformación," a permanent bridge that will provide a safe, rapid connection for the auxiliary council of San Baltazar Tetela and the surrounding Mixteca municipalities. Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier described the project as part of an inter‑institutional strategy to generate shared wealth, welfare and opportunities for a region long affected by marginalisation.

The infrastructure is presented as an act of justice that will improve mobility, bring services closer to communities and open new avenues for economic growth. It will consolidate the Ruta del Mezcal, support tourism, sports and agro‑industrial activities, and repurpose the boat "La Panga" for tourist trips that will benefit a local cooperative. The Ministry of Agriculture will install nurseries using water from the Valsequillo reservoir to produce flowers and fruit, while aquatic lily harvested from the reservoir will be used to make paving tiles for unpaved villages, aligning with President Claudia Sheinbaum's water‑restoration efforts.

Infrastructure Secretary José Manuel Contreras de los Santos said the bridge will benefit more than 1.7 million inhabitants, enhancing links to Huehuetlán el Grande, Tzicatlacoyan, San Juan Atzompa, Xochiltepec, Teopantlán and San Martín Totoltepec. It is expected to strengthen market access for agricultural products, increase visitors to local spas and religious sites, and stands out as one of Puebla’s most significant civil‑engineering projects in recent years. The state government reaffirmed its commitment to reducing inequalities and building infrastructure that promotes prosperity for its citizens.
