Olimpia Coral Melo's documentary on digital violence to screen in Puebla

The documentary “Llamarse Olimpia,” directed by Indira Cato, will hold free screenings in Puebla, Mexico, including at the Auditorio de la Reforma on August 25. The film chronicles the activism of Olimpia Coral Melo, whose fight against digital violence led to the creation of the “Ley Olimpia,” a law designed to sanction the non-consensual distribution of intimate content.

During a presentation of the film, Puebla Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier recognized Coral Melo’s contributions to gender-based legislation. He also reported that the state’s LIBRE Centers contributed to a 60 percent reduction in feminicides during the first half of 2026 compared to the same period in 2024.

Coral Melo issued an alert regarding the existence of at least 138 digital sexual exploitation sites in Puebla, noting that seven out of ten women featured in these spaces are shown naked, sometimes with images modified by artificial intelligence. The documentary, which is nominated for a Best Feature Film Ariel Award, was produced with a team that was approximately 90 percent female.
