Puebla Historic Center stays safe as police arrest three after gunfire chase

Local merchants say the historic centre of Puebla has not experienced a decline in safety or visitor numbers despite two recent firearm‑related incidents. José Juan Ayala Vázquez, president of the Centre’s Council of Merchants, described the events as isolated, noting that they occurred during low‑traffic hours and did not affect sales or tourist flow.

Separately, the Puebla State Public Security Secretariat reported the arrest of two men and a woman after a chase through the historic centre. Police say the suspects fired at officers, prompting a pursuit that ended in the San Antonio neighbourhood. Officers recovered a shotgun, a replica firearm and several packets allegedly containing marijuana and crystal. No officers were injured, and the three detainees face investigation for illegal weapons possession, drug offences and dangerous attacks.
