Puebla invests 1.1 bn pesos in new schools and launches scholarship program

The state of Puebla will allocate a combined 1.1 billion pesos to expand its education system. Governor Alejandro Armenta said the funding will support “careers linked to regional vocations, agriculture, technology, data management, cybersecurity and tourism.” The plan adds 12 new high‑school campuses, converts 25 existing schools to technological institutes and creates 45 first‑semester groups that will admit about 1,800 students. A total of 3,000 pupils will receive dual certification in technical tracks, and infrastructure upgrades are slated for CBTIS 300 in Cuautlancingo and CETIS 17 in San Martín Texmelucan.

In parallel, the state Secretariat of Public Education (SEP) and the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP) inaugurated the “Plan Becas,” a scholarship initiative offering up to 70 % tuition support. SEP sub‑secretary Lizbeth Martínez Moreno highlighted participation from roughly 58 public and 44 private institutions covering around 600 academic programs. Scholarship amounts range from 10 % to 70 % of tuition, aiming to broaden access for thousands of Puebla’s youth. The program will be presented at the Centro Expositor from July 18‑21, where students can receive vocational guidance and detailed information on the available aid.
