Puebla launches flavored Café 5 de Mayo at national coffee convention

The state of Puebla announced four new flavored versions of its Café 5 de Mayo—vanilla, chocolate, cinnamon and cardamom—at the opening of the National Coffee Convention 2026. Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development Ana Laura Altamirano Pérez said the 38 tonnes of high‑quality coffee parchment collected this cycle will yield about 28 tonnes of green beans, enough for roughly 270 000 flavored jars and 220 000 soluble‑freeze‑dry bags. The launch aims to boost export opportunities and keep more value in coffee‑growing communities, many of which are indigenous.

Puebla, Mexico’s third‑largest coffee producer, cultivates coffee on some 71 000 ha across 54 municipalities, generating about 225 000 tonnes of coffee cherries annually. The convention expects 2 000 producers and over 30 000 visitors, featuring business meetings, workshops and cultural events. State Governor Alejandro Armenta highlighted the historic MX$1.7 billion investment in the sector and reiterated support for the Secretary’s work, noting that seven of ten coffee growers belong to indigenous peoples.

The initiative reflects a shift from expanding production to protecting territory and community welfare while positioning Puebla’s coffee on the international market.
