Puebla legislature advances housing rights and seismic safety reforms
The Housing Commission of the Puebla Congress has approved reforms to the State Housing Law to align it with constitutional and legal standards regarding the human right to adequate housing. The modifications aim to ensure housing includes essential elements such as accessibility, cultural adequacy, affordability, service availability, and security of tenure, with a specific focus on vulnerable groups and gender perspective.
Separately, the XXIX College of Civil Engineers of the State of Puebla (CICEPAC) is urging the state legislature to update the Construction Law to address seismic risks. Engineers noted that the current law has not been updated in 20 years, leading to inconsistent safety criteria across different municipalities. CICEPAC is working on a State Structural Safety Framework to mitigate vulnerabilities caused by the region's geotechnical diversity and seismic activity.
