Social housing projects launched in Puebla, Mexico and Tumaco, Colombia

Federal and state authorities held a ceremony to lay the first stone of the "Carmen Serdán" housing complex in Puebla, Mexico. The project, overseen by Fovissste, will provide 512 apartments of 60 m² each for low‑income public‑sector workers. Eligibility requires active or retired status, incomes of one to two minimum wages and no prior property. Funding will be offered through peso‑denominated credits with fixed payments. The event was attended by Edna Vega Rangel (Sedatu), Jabnely Maldonado Meza (Fovissste executive vocal), Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier and President Claudia Sheinbaum.

In Tumaco, Colombia, Mayor Félix Henao handed over 400 social‑housing units to families, half of whom are victims of forced displacement and the other half are households relocated from high‑risk zones near the airport expansion. Each 42 m² home sits on a 66 m² lot. The delivery was made possible through coordination between the municipal administration, the Nariño governor’s office and the national Ministry of Housing, with additional funding from a locally built wastewater‑treatment plant. “Hoy hacemos realidad un sueño que comenzamos a gestionar desde 2016,” Henao said during the ceremony.
