Various regional authorities intensify sanitary and security inspections

Multiple regional governments are conducting intensified inspections to ensure public health and safety during upcoming holidays and seasonal activities.

In Bolivia, Tarija authorities conducted 15 operations in less than a month to inspect hotels, bakeries, and restaurants ahead of the All Saints festivities, resulting in the seizure of expired products and contraband. Similarly, in Peru, sanitary surveillance in Ayacucho led to the closure of an artisanal oven to ensure the safety of traditional bread products.

In Mexico, the Puebla City Government reported that its municipal slaughterhouse processed nearly 178,000 animals over the last two years, implementing sanitary inspections that led to the preventive seizure of hundreds of animals and viscera unfit for human consumption.

Security and consumer protection measures are also being heightened in Colombia. Barranquilla has deployed 1,200 police officers for Halloween security, including bans on vehicle convoys, while Cundinamarca is increasing controls to prevent the sale of illegal or adulterated liquor. In Panama, the Ministry of Agricultural Development is conducting epidemiological surveillance in Guna Yala to protect livestock from diseases like Newcastle and swine fever.

In Spain, Cartagena police will inspect municipal markets to ensure vendors comply with consumer protection laws regarding visible pricing and receipts. Meanwhile, in Ecuador, Agrocalidad is increasing inspections at livestock fairs in Tungurahua to monitor animal health and documentation.
