Puebla officials claim Mexico City motorcyclists lead ‘Ley Casco’ protests

Elpidio Díaz Escobar, president of the Transport and Mobility Commission of the Puebla State Congress, has accused motorcyclists from Mexico City of leading recent protests against the ‘Ley Casco’. Díaz claimed that the demonstrators responsible for road blockages, such as those on Vía Atlixcáyotl, do not represent local Puebla delivery workers, noting the presence of high-end motorcycles from brands like Ducati and Harley-Davidson.

The controversial law requires motorcyclists to install a chip to facilitate identification for security purposes. While officials stated the reform will not be reversed, they have suspended the helmet hologram exchange program pending further negotiations. A dialogue forum is scheduled at the local legislature for September 20 to discuss potential improvements to the law and address the concerns of local riders.
