Puebla officials investigate five municipal presidents for federal crimes

The State Attorney General's Office (FGE) of Puebla has confirmed that at least five active municipal presidents are currently under investigation for alleged involvement in federal crimes. Idamis Pastor Betancourt, head of the FGE, stated that these investigations are being handled by the Attorney General's Office (FGR) due to the nature of the alleged offenses, which include high-impact crimes such as cargo transport theft and fuel theft.

While the specific identities of the officials under investigation have not been released due to the confidential nature of the ongoing cases, the FGE highlighted close coordination with federal authorities. This collaboration was noted in the recent arrest of Isaac Rodríguez Ochoa, the mayor of Esperanza, who was detained as part of ‘Operativo Enjambre,’ a federal strategy aimed at dismantling criminal protection networks.

To date, seven municipal presidents have been detained during their current terms under state and federal administrations, with one additional official currently a fugitive. Recent arrests include the mayors of Esperanza and Tepeyahualco, who were allegedly linked to a criminal group known as ‘Los Zúñiga’.
