Puebla officials propose Cablebús expansion and new bicycle system

Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier has proposed expanding the Cablebús system in Puebla to connect the communities of La Resurrección, Canoa, Xonacatepec, and Aparicio with the southern part of the city. The expansion, which would integrate the Ecoparque La Malintzi, is subject to approval from local residents to avoid conflict. If approved, the project aims to reduce travel times from two hours to approximately 40 minutes. The governor emphasized that the installation would not require tree felling.

In a separate mobility initiative, the state bicycle system, Yankuilotl, is planning a phased rollout. The first phase, scheduled for the first quarter of 2027, will include 100 stations and 1,200 units. The long-term goal is to reach 5,000 bicycles across 250 stations. Director Lagtzu López Miro stated that the bicycles will be priced under 6,000 pesos to ensure social utility. The state is collaborating with the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) to determine optimal station locations based on population density and existing infrastructure.
