Puebla officials report disinformation attacks against STC transport system

José Luis García Parra, the Cabinet Coordinator for the Government of Puebla, reported that the digital conversation surrounding the Sistema de Transporte por Cable (STC) has been targeted by coordinated disinformation networks. An analysis conducted from January to August 2026 identified 413,000 mentions, 61,500 unique actors, and approximately 100 million impressions.

While 63 percent of the digital conversation was positive, officials noted that negative narratives were amplified by a “fábrica de mentiras” (factory of lies). This structure consists of fake accounts with similar dialogue, shared sources, and low follower counts that work to distort public perception. The study also detected advertising schemes with reach extending to the United States, Colombia, and Argentina.

García Parra specifically alleged that TV Azteca attempted to generate negative perception regarding the STC through over 1,100 notes across various regional affiliates after seeking a 2.3 billion peso agreement. The government maintains that the digital discourse is a mix of genuine citizen concern and decontextualized or incorrect information.
