Puebla opens Puente de la Transformación, launching a new tourist district

After a 70‑year wait, the Puente de la Transformación bridge in Puebla's San Baltazar Tetela and Los Ángeles Tetela was completed and put into service. Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier said the structure operates at 100 % capacity, cutting travel times from up to 50 minutes by road to about 90 seconds by vehicle, and linking the area to the Periférico Ecológico corridor.

The state government announced the creation of a surrounding tourist district that will feature productive chinampas, nurseries, a gastronomic and artisan corridor, a lookout point, a symbolic sign and an open space dedicated to indigenous communities. "La Panga," the bridge’s former ferry, will be turned into a floating restaurant. Security cameras will be installed to ensure safety for residents, producers and visitors. Federal subsecretary Celina Peña Guzmán highlighted the bridge’s importance for students who previously relied on the ferry. The project is expected to be visited by President‑elect Claudia Sheinbaum.

The bridge spans 480 metres, with 28 beams and 28 columns, and its foundations were deepened by 15 metres for added stability. Approximately 150 vehicles are recorded crossing the bridge every two hours, forming part of a broader mobility plan that connects several municipalities in the Mixtec region.
