Puebla authorities confirm deaths of BUAP student and mayor's son
Two separate tragic incidents involving missing persons have been confirmed in the state of Puebla, Mexico.
Hugo Alejandro Hernández Tello, a 25-year-old student at the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP), was found dead in the Alseseca River in the Lomas de San Miguel neighborhood. He had been missing since September 5. Forensic studies by the Institute of Forensic Sciences (INCIFO) confirmed his identity. Medical examiners determined the cause of death was craniofacial trauma, which is consistent with a fall.
In a separate case, Mateo Hernández, the 16-year-old son of the mayor of Tecamachalco, was found dead in the municipality of Nicolás Bravo. He had been missing since September 19. His body was discovered near the Azumbilla-Tlacotepec highway, wrapped in a blanket and showing signs of violence, including being tied with wire. Authorities are investigating the possibility of kidnapping and extortion, as the case is being handled by the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Kidnapping and Extortion.
