Puebla protests call for action on missing persons and halt to cablebus project

Families and activists in Puebla organized a caravan on 26 July 2026 demanding authorities locate 16‑year‑old Esdras Shmuel Fernández Ramírez, who vanished on 16 July. The group displayed banners and photographs while moving through city streets to raise awareness of his disappearance.

At the same time, a silent demonstration by the group Voz de los Desaparecidos was held on the Boulevard 5 de Mayo in front of the state prosecutor’s office, urging the state government to improve search protocols for missing people. The protests coincided with a larger rally of about 200 people opposing the state‑backed cablebus project, citing environmental concerns and excessive tree cutting. Activist Sergio Mastreta and other demonstrators called for dialogue with Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier on both the mobility plan and the handling of disappearance cases. The day also featured an announcement of a 12‑billion‑peso rehabilitation of the Amozoc toll‑booth to ease regional traffic.
