Argentina and Mexico report holiday shifts and weather-related school closures

In Argentina, the Commerce Employee Day holiday has been rescheduled for 2026. Due to the original date, September 26, falling on a Saturday, an agreement between the Argentine Federation of Commerce and Services (Faecys) and business chambers has moved the observance to Monday, September 28, or in some regions like Santo Tomé, Wednesday, September 30. Employees working on the rescheduled day are entitled to a 100% wage increase.

In Mexico, the state of Puebla has announced the suspension of in-person classes for September 9 and 10, 2026, across 26 municipalities in the Sierra Negra region. This preventive measure follows weather alerts from Civil Protection regarding heavy rainfall, potential thunderstorms, and wind. Educational services will transition to remote learning using textbooks and home assignments, with students expected to return to classrooms on Friday, September 11.
