Puebla Congress approves measures for fire prevention and labor rights

The Civil Protection Commission of the Puebla State Congress, led by Deputy Rafael Alejandro Micalco Méndez, has approved several agreements to manage environmental and social risks. Key measures include exhorting state environmental, agricultural, and civil protection agencies to coordinate with municipalities to prevent irregular grassland burning and mitigate the effects of the El Niño climate phenomenon.

The commission also approved initiatives to launch awareness campaigns regarding residential fire prevention and the safe handling of flammable substances. Additionally, the Congress approved agreements to strengthen labor rights for agricultural workers participating in the Mexico-Canada Temporary Agricultural Workers Program (PTAT), ensuring they receive proper guidance on legal protections and human rights.

In other regional developments, the Hidalgo Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development (Saderh) distributed over 6.8 million pesos in productive support to farmers in Tepeji del Río and Tlahuelilpan. Meanwhile, in Chiapas, Governor Eduardo Ramírez Aguilar oversaw infrastructure investments in Pantepec and Jitotol, focusing on educational facilities, water systems, and road reconstruction. In Guerrero, the government reactivated the Tlapa Agricultural Employment Fair, offering 200 formal job positions.

At the federal level, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo submitted an initiative to the Congress of the Union to establish a new General Law of Ecological Equilibrium and Environmental Protection, aimed at strengthening the state's environmental management capabilities.
