Puebla unveils Technology and Sustainability Capital to spur innovation and industry

The state government of Puebla announced the creation of a "Capital of Technology and Sustainability," a multi‑sector hub that brings together industry, research, education and social welfare. Key projects highlighted include a solar‑panel factory, a coffee‑wellbeing venture, a lithium‑battery plant for Olinia electric vehicles, and a maize‑wellbeing industry. A flagship food product—a protein‑rich atole made from local amaranth—contains 22 g of protein, is being validated by Cofepris and will cost about 18 pesos, targeting senior citizens.

The hub hosts the Office of Technology Transfer, which offers specialized laboratories, prototyping areas, coworking spaces and certification services. Partnerships involve the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla, the Instituto Politécnico Nacional and Tec de Monterrey students, who also demonstrated a neural‑interface‑controlled wheelchair. Infrastructure upgrades feature a convention centre, bus terminal, water‑treatment plants, health facilities, a hotel, more than 1,000 new homes built by Infonavit and CONAVI, a renovated central park and new cultural‑recreational spaces.

Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier said the initiative aims to democratise access to advanced products and generate economic and social development for the region.
