Puebla launches 2026 Chile en Nogada season with $2 bn economic boost
The 2026 "Chile en Nogada, Tradición Viva" season was inaugurated in Puebla, with state tourism secretary Carla López‑Malo announcing an expected sale of 4.5 million platillos and an economic spillover exceeding 2 billion pesos. The campaign aims to strengthen the entire value chain, from fruit, walnut and poblano pepper production in the Izta‑Popó region to preparation and tourism promotion.
Organisers highlighted that more than 220 family‑run production units, over 70 traditional kitchens across 11 municipalities, and more than 2,000 restaurants and hotels will benefit, creating jobs and supporting thousands of families. A partnership between the national restaurant association CANIRAC and the federal agriculture ministry will channel restaurant purchases directly to local growers.
The season is also being used to promote broader tourism initiatives, including the upcoming Tianguis Turístico México 2027. Officials noted that Puebla attracted 7.1 million visitors from January to May 2026, generating an additional 8.275 billion pesos in economic activity, underscoring the region’s growing importance as a gastronomic destination.
