Puebla Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier expands field support and export brand
Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier of Puebla announced a large‑scale rollout of the Programa de Obra Comunitaria, delivering 36 community projects worth over 7 million pesos and pledging 1.5 billion pesos for the 2025‑2026 cycle, with a target of 2 billion pesos by 2027. The program provided tractors, agricultural drones, and over 115 pieces of equipment to farmers, boosting the state’s cultivated area from 50 000 to 200 000 hectares and benefiting roughly 150 000 families. Additional resources included fertilizers, coffee‑rust control kits, and price guarantees of 120 pesos per kilogram for specialty coffee.
The administration also promoted the “Marca Puebla Cinco de Mayo” initiative, which integrates technology such as a valve‑controlled coffee pack to preserve aroma. In its first year the brand generated more than $1 million in export sales, with 56 products from 17 brands reaching the million‑dollar mark. A shipment of 12 000 mezcal bottles is slated for Los Angeles, and the program supports 274 enterprises, 283 registered brands across 56 municipalities, and 140 cooperatives. A partnership with the graphic‑industry chamber aims to improve packaging and labeling, while the “Sabor a Puebla” pilot will introduce branded products to 50 schools.
Together, the field‑support program and the export brand seek to strengthen food sovereignty, raise rural incomes, and raise Puebla’s profile in national and international markets.
