Puebla Cinco de Mayo brand hits $1 million in U.S. export sales

The state‑run Puebla Cinco de Mayo brand, which aggregates 497 producers and more than 2,500 products from across Puebla, recorded its first US$1 million in export sales. Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier announced the milestone during a visit to the brand’s flagship store, noting the presence of the products in Los Angeles, New York and New Jersey.

The achievement is presented as a boost to the local economy and a validation of the brand’s quality standards. Officials plan to expand distribution through kiosks at airports linked to the Hermanos Serdán International Airport and through the “Escuela Saludable” program that aims to reach over 8,000 schools.

Producers highlighted include María Barrera Gil, whose artisanal mole now ships regularly to New Jersey; Maricela Coleote Fuentes, who exports honey to New York; Cintia Otero Santos, whose dehydrated fruit and vegetable products target new customers; and José Manuel Contreras Sacramento, whose peanut line saw a 30 % sales increase and created 20 direct jobs. The brand’s growth is credited with generating temporary employment and improving packaging and labeling processes for participating micro, small and medium enterprises.
