Pueblo Chile nominated for Colorado's 2028 American Innovation Coin

Colorado Governor Jared Polis has nominated the Pueblo Chile to be featured on the state’s 2028 American Innovation Coin. The selection honors the region's agricultural heritage and economic importance.

The chosen design features the Mosco chile, a popular strain developed in 1994 by Dr. Mike Bartalo, a vegetable crop specialist at Colorado State University, through selective plant breeding. The Mosco variety has been a staple in the Pueblo market for over two decades.

The U.S. Mint’s American Innovation Coin program is a multi-year series issuing $1 coins for all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and five U.S. territories. Following the governor's nomination, the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee is scheduled to review the design in early October.
