Pueblo Police shoot and kill kidnapping suspect
A man died following an officer-involved shooting in Pueblo, Colorado, after he allegedly attempted to kidnap an infant. The incident began Saturday night when police responded to a domestic violence report involving a man armed with a handgun who was threatening a woman inside a residence.
Officers established a perimeter and learned there was an active restraining order protecting the woman and her infant from the suspect. The man subsequently fled the home while carrying the child. According to the Pueblo Police Department, the suspect eventually placed the infant in a stroller but continued to dig through a backpack in a parking lot despite police commands to stop. An officer fired at the man, hitting him.
The suspect was transported to a local hospital where he later died. Neither the woman nor the infant sustained physical injuries. The 10th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team is investigating the shooting, and all involved officers have been placed on leave.
