Puente Genil to ban seasonal workers from camping in public spaces

The Mayor of Puente Genil, Sergio Velasco, has announced a ban on seasonal workers camping in public spaces. This measure aims to prevent the issues experienced last autumn near the local bus station, where mattresses and tents occupied public areas, causing discomfort to commuters.

Velasco stated that the local government is coordinating with the Local Police, the Government Sub-delegation, and the Civil Guard to manage the situation. He noted that the arrival of seasonal workers has occurred earlier this year and emphasized the need for organized immigration management.

The Mayor also raised concerns regarding labor compliance, requesting inspections to identify employers from surrounding towns who may be utilizing local resources without fulfilling agricultural agreement obligations. Additionally, he noted that while the town hosts a Red Cross migration center, the municipal budget does not allow for the establishment of further dedicated facilities.
