Puente Piedra demolishes homes to expand Panamericana Norte

The Municipality of Puente Piedra conducted a demolition operation on August 27 to recover public spaces along the auxiliary road of Panamericana Norte. The intervention targeted irregular structures, including homes and car wash facilities, located near El Recuerdo Park and Las Torres Avenue. According to municipal authorities, these actions are intended to clear the path for future auxiliary roads, improve traffic circulation, and reduce congestion on the Panamericana Norte.

The operation has faced significant backlash from local residents. Affected families reported that demolitions occurred without sufficient prior notice, leaving them unable to retrieve personal belongings. Some residents also claimed the intervention exceeded previous agreements with the municipality. Additional complaints include the cutting of basic services like water and electricity, as well as concerns regarding health risks posed by debris left at the sites.

While Panamericana Norte is a metropolitan road managed by the Municipality of Lima, Puente Piedra officials stated they acted independently to address long-standing resident demands for solutions to the area's congestion.
