Puente Tampico sees eight suicide attempts per week

Authorities in Tampico, Tamaulipas, report an average of eight suicide attempts per week occurring at the Puente Tampico. Roldán Márquez Sánchez, coordinator of the State Guard in the area, stated that officers intervene using persuasion techniques and tactical medicine training to prevent individuals from jumping.

Monitoring via the C5 Command and Control Center allows for rapid detection and response. Once on-site, officers attempt to dialogue with those in crisis and locate family members to ensure the individuals are placed in a safe environment. Reported motives for these crises include loneliness, lack of support, and family issues.

Beyond the specific incidents at the bridge, the State Guard receives over 100 daily emergency calls via 911, with an estimated 80 percent of those cases involving domestic violence.
