Puerto de Iquique receives 116‑ton transformer for Collahuasi mining project
A 116‑ton transformer destined for the Compañía Minera Doña Inés de Collahuasi was successfully off‑loaded at the Multi‑Operated Terminal of Puerto de Iquique. The cargo arrived aboard the multipurpose vessel Cóndor Bilbao and, together with additional electrical components, totals 203 tons of equipment for the mining project.
The operation, carried out by Empresa Portuaria Iquique, demonstrated the port’s technical and safety standards for handling oversized, high‑value project cargo. The successful handling underscores the port’s role as a key logistics hub for large‑scale mining and industrial developments in Chile’s Tarapacá region, supporting local economic activity and the competitiveness of the mining supply chain.
