Spanish municipalities roll out free summer cinema and cultural programmes

Several Spanish towns and cities have launched free outdoor cultural events for the summer. The El Ejido town council's summer cinema programme runs from early July to early September across multiple parks, offering 31 screenings of films such as “Héroes de Central Park” and “Los Tipos Malos 2”. In Alcalá de Henares, the ALCINE de Verano series presents four Spanish films each night in a 900‑seat open‑air venue. Puerto de la Cruz announced its largest neighbourhood‑activity schedule, with weekly workshops, sport and cultural sessions organised by the city’s participation department. Onzonilla will host its ninth Amateur Theatre Festival on 30 July–2 August, featuring amateur troupes from across Spain. Oviedo’s cultural agenda includes a free opera premiere and a series of open‑air film screenings in plazas. Santa Marta opened a permanent exhibition space for the works of sculptor Agustín Casillas. Outside Spain, the municipality of San Juan (India) offered a free family film “Mi Obra Maestra” as part of its winter‑break “Cine de Barrio” cycle, and the Association of Popular Universities of Extremadura continued its long‑standing “Cine de Verano” tour in rural Cáceres, Spain. All events aim to provide accessible, low‑cost entertainment and strengthen community participation.
